'Cuz I Felt Like It!

I was reading about using wool dryer balls instead of fabric softener or fabric sheets.  Since I have wool and a felting needle tool, I thought I would give it a try!
I did prick my finger once on each of the balls!   It is hard to hold the wool wad in the beginning but once it gets a bit larger, it is a very relaxing adventure!
I thinly layer some wool that has been carded around the initial wad for the center and then methodically stab it over and over and over!  It took me about 1/2 an hour to make each of the finished balls. I continue layering and stabbing until I have an orb the size of a tennis ball.
I did weigh them-a half an ounce for each one.  Now to give them a try!  I will throw them in the dryer to help the load of laundry dry quicker and static free without adding the chemical build up of fabric softener or sheets.  I will let you know how it goes!
Here is the tool I used for needle felting them-I couldn't imagine using a single felting needle for this!
We have a nesting pair of Sandhills!  They come to eat, one at a time and we found the nest out back in the swamp.   I will try to get a picture of the eggs in the nest!
One sock done, starting on the foot of the other!
Another Brioche dishcloth off the needles.   I had a few friends over for a knitting day and tried to teach them how to make this........it was a bit complicated but they are going to continue to give it a go.  We might have another class soon to address this stitch!  We had a great time and I totally forgot to get a picture of us!  Bad blogger......

  1. I've always thought that those felting tools look rather like medieval torture tools!

Great news on the cranes -- very exciting!

  2. I recognize the tool! I have one, but I rarely ever use it... wouldn't it be easier to make wetfelted balls? just "balling" up some fibres, rubbing with soapy hands until they cling together. I'd put them in a panty hose, tied between, to felt them hard in the washing mashine? I know, I am lazy:) not that I need any, I don't have a dryer, but I prefer not to prick my fingers with those barbed things:) and I made feltballs like that for DS, when he was smaller....

  3. Sandhill babies! Cool! I didn't know that about putting wool balls in the dryer. I like that idea. Curious to see how it turns out

  4. I used to spray fabric softener but stopped that years ago. Last month I bought my first box of dryer sheets. WM is not happy with the fragrance. I might ask DD to whip me up some wooly balls!
