My quilting buddy, Mary, invited me into a trip to the soon-to-close JoAnn's store, about an hour away. I didn't really feel like going but I did want to pick up a few backing and background fabrics
so I pushed myself per doctor orders.
Off we went-I haven't been there in more than 6 months!
On the way, we saw this sight--very unusual for us--it's a rather grand pile of rocks! Some company much closer to the coast must've been doing some construction (digging a foundation) and needed a place to store it before they resold it. Where I live, you can dig more than 100' and never run into a rock but along the coast it is a different story. The pile is 100' long and about 50' high--
a really big pile of very large boulders!
The fabric supply was fine at the closing store. I found just what I had written down to purchase but as for notions; very slim pickings!!! The lines were atrocious--easily and hour and a half of our visit was waiting for the cutting counter and then again to cash out! Yikes! It was good to be with my friend but I was exhausted and glad to be back to my bed, too! Let's be honest.
Waiting in the store would have gotten my nerves too... it's a good thing you were there with your girlfriend.
ReplyDeleteI hung my illusion quilt on the wall yesterday...it's my newest finished sewing piece. And it looks great on the wall.
Your fabrics are great... I could really use a store with sale fabrics here too! I look forward to seeing what you will sew... a warm greeting comes to you from Viola.
Glad you found something. I stopped by one of our stores yesterday and only got some needles for weaving in yarn ends! And, the store was very dirty.
ReplyDeleteI really hate that Joann's is closing. I confess to not shopping there a lot in the past few years but it was nice knowing it was there when you needed something that you couldn't wait to have delivered. Our store was brand new and very well stocked up until last year. What a shame.
ReplyDeleteAt knitting group last night, trips to Joann were discussed. Most had found things to buy without a problem, but I realize that could change quickly. As in, after this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI'll admit - I wasn't looking at the rocks in your picture - I was looking at those gorgeous clouds!
ReplyDeleteI was sorry to hear about Joanns closing. They aren't a thing in Canada, but not long after we moved here, they started shipping to Canada and I got some very nice things! I checked a few months ago, and they had stopped shipping to Canada, but since the border is only 40 minutes away for us... I thought I might head over in person one day. We never got around to it and now I guess we never will! Too bad! Love the fabrics you got though!
I will really miss JoAnns as that's where I buy a lot of the acrylic yarn I used for my charity knitting. I'm hoping to stock up a bit before it's all gone. I'm glad you got out, but I'm sure you were glad to be home. The lines always seem to be long at the checkout, even before the closing announcement.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
