GRATEFUL FOR YARN

The second little baby sweater set for a future great grandchild is now added to the box.  The little bit that was left over of the sweater yarn was just enough to make a pom-pom on top of the hat! Thank you to whoever suggested it to me in the comments!

I am making progress with the mitered squares blanket--the colors are coming out oddly but I am enjoying this and I will just keep knitting for at least another two rows. 

 No, I am not bored with all the garter knitting! 

My plans for finishing the quilt on the frame didn't happen. 

 A migraine put me down for the count.  A dark room, quiet and laying flat on my back took up most of the day 

but I did do some knitting later in the day as its grip let up.

 

Grey

This blanket is so light and comfy!  It is a DK yarn knit in #9 needles.  The size ended up 38" x 50".

 I think it looks like layers of rock!  

I have started a new knitted blanket in the Lion Brand Mandala Bonus Bundle in the Satyrs colorway! I am enjoying the mitered squares all connected and without any ends to weave in! Lena loves this yarn--she steals the blanket and buries her head in the skein--she likes owning it and I try to be patient! lol

I also enjoyed watching this family of 5 Sandhill Cranes for almost half an hour.  The 'Dad' is standing on guard on the left.  I sure appreciate all of the birds that collect around the bird feeder 

but these are the only ones who are almost tall enough to eat from this one while still standing on the ground! 

(the males are 4-4 1/2 ft tall!)

Which reminded me of this photo I took in 2008--my young cat decided to 'hunt' these Cranes and they responded in kind!  The female is trying to fly away and the male is coming to the rescue!  He didn't actually hit Nyki but she got the message--

and never tried to stalk them again!   

YARN LOVING!

The buttons have been sewn on the little sweater;  I used buttons from my Mom's and her Mom's button box so I added the love of the past generations into this.  This pattern has no buttonholes knitted in because you use buttons that will fit between the stitches-this way, you can make a sweater and not worry about which way to button it up;  I like that kind of freedom!

I have also cast on the feminine version of the sweater--I started it but will save the rest to make on the air plane home next week-I have to plan ahead!

The knit blanket is taking longer but progress is occurring--see the colors changing finally!!!  Right now the blanket is 22" wide so about the halfway mark.  It is very relaxing to work on it, I am glad to admit!

 

KNITTING A BUNDLE BLANKET

I don't usually knit a blanket but Mom and I are playing 

with a new Mandal Bonus Bundle cake (10.5 oz) 

and knitting a blanket in garter from corner to corner

 just to change things up! 

 It will be interesting to change this pattern for a square blanket

into a rectangle, too.

Watching church from FL here in NY this morning.  We finally enjoyed some rain last evening and a cooling of temperatures which was much appreciated!

 

PICTURAL C2C

 I've moved from dishcloth to a blanket 

using the C2C (corner to corner) stitches.  

You just follow the graph diagonally in a kind of intarsia method.

  It is harder to describe than it is to do! lol

As I worked along, I wondered if the graph would also work for a quilt; using different shades of the key elements to produce the design!  I think it will make an interesting study to compare!

  There are several free patterns available for these newer crochet patterns.  It's good to learn something new!

TUMBLING TUESDAY

This batch of rocks is on its last week-next week will be the big reveal!  I have chert, petrified wood and some other fun rocks!

This was the mystery mix from the RockShed--oh, so pretty after only one week of tumbling!

As long as we are in Spring now, I thought I would show you my veggie beds--and I have green poking up all over!  

Look hard and you can see the beans here!  See-we don't have soil here-we have sand with lots of decaying material in it!  Very different to work with but I have high hopes!

The last block is finished!  Now I have to decide how to attach them to each other--I'm pretty sure I will be crocheting the blocks together--it is easiest and looks good, too.  

I'm off to Quilting Group today; I made some

 machine/ hand needle cushions for the original four of us! 

 I made it out of canvas squares filled with walnut shells.  

The lines are inked on with permanent marker.

  The pile of threads are from the 'fringing' I did to the sides!
