I wanted to greatly enlarge my ironing area on the sewing table in my studio so I asked Bill for an appropriate piece of board to use. The tape is highlighting my inability to measure and then transfer the measurements to the board in my wood shop--Yes, I had to glue the boards back together and the tape was holding it in place for the overnight drying period!!! Bill was a good sport and helped me trim it again on the table saw
but this time it was spot on accurate! lol
I spent a good chunk of the morning covering it with two layers of cotton batting and then making a cover for it. I put it on like a pillowcase and then had stitch the opening closed. It was worth the effort because it is so much easier to iron fabric on the larger area!! (See Lena on her designated spot?! I give her a good brushing and then she naps!)
Another view of my stitching station--36" of cutting space
and 36" of ironing space now.
Here is a fuller view of my studio. No, I didn't clean it up first--there is a variety of piles on the quilting frame because it is not loaded with a quilt right now and I was pulling out the piles
I want to take to QOV Sew Day tomorrow!
Here is the center with the borders ready to stitch to the panel.
I will be bordering this with some red fabric.
I think this is going to be a wall hanging for the summer!
That’s such a relatable workshop story — and honestly, it sounds like it ended in a very satisfying “we got there in the end” way 😄
ReplyDeleteI love how it starts with a simple request for a bigger ironing surface and turns into a full mini adventure in measurement, glue, tape, and second chances in the wood shop. The taped-up “problem-solving stage” actually feels like part of the process, even if it wasn’t planned that way.
And having Bill step in with the table saw to get it spot on at the end gives it that perfect finishing touch — a bit of teamwork, a bit of laughter, and a successful result after a wobbly first attempt. Sometimes those are the projects you remember most fondly.
Sadly, measuring when it counts is a problem for me, too. 🙃 Terrific result, though.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great space!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great work area - I love that there is room for Lena too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great work space!! and the center of your QOV is amazing!!
ReplyDeleteNice set-up -- I don't quilt but have watched people make them and it does require a whole lot of ironing. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's the work space of my dreams! I can't even imagine having that much room to work in. Ironing big pieces of material like quilt backings is the bane of my existence. I'm always in a bad mood whenever I have to wrestle anything that doesn't fit on my little ironing board.
ReplyDeleteYou have a really nice studio space. Good job on the new ironing station. And the QOV you're working on is going to be a beauty.
