Special Events

We celebrated my brother-in-law's birthday together!

The main reason for this trip is to be here with my parents for their 60th wedding anniversary!

My siblings and spouses all met at the restaurant for a shared dinner!

Northern Visit Begins

I got to accomplish some knitting while flying to visit my parents in NY.
Mom and I started right in on  a project today.  We layered plastic beads in cake pans and then we baked them.
After cooling, we had Dad drill a hole in the top
and hung them outside for suncatchers.........so when it stopped raining, we could see it shine in the sun!

TDF and Travel

For Day 9-11 I have added another 277 yards , this time of Blue Faced Leicester, fingering weight yarn.  I was a bit disappointed the yarn is more teal then forest green but I can always overdye it later!
The Brioche Alex scarf is off the needles!  It is 55" long-a bit on the shorter side but I am thrilled with the success of the lesson!
The reverse is a nice complement of the front.  I will be trying a hat next!
We are heading to NY to visit my parents for the celebration of 60 years of marriage!
Storm didn't want us to go........she is sighing, 'there is no place like home.....!'
(A great friend will be kitty-sitting for us while we are gone!)

This Makes Eight

Saturday we help move Caleb and Cassandra and Ella from Jacksonville Beach to Fernandina Beach!  (This puts them only 5 mins from work instead of 45 and right by the beach!)  This is the 8th time we have helped him move since we all moved to Florida 6 years ago!!!!!  He says he is staying here for a long time so we have a reprieve!
 Goodbye, little apartment!
All loaded up and ready to go!  They had most of the work done themselves, but both their families worked to load up everything and caravan it to their new home about an hour north.
 Home!
Their's is the southern duplex with both an upper and lower patio/deck.
The view from their balcony-which is right outside of their bedroom!
The beach access across the road......
Cassandra found her first sea glass!
Ella was happy with her new highchair!
Goodnight from their new beach bungalow!

Day Seven of TDF

I had a bit of dyeing to do today so I could spin some color.   The fiber took forever to dry because it kept raining every little bit today!  Not my usual kind of day!
The fuchsia is Columbia/Suffolk lamb.........kind of homespun but packed for next week's trip.
This is BFL and will be a pair of fingerless mitts!
I didn't conclude any mileage but I am ahead of the game and this bobbin of singles is acceptable for my goals!
I am also going great on the scarf-the light bulb finally went off and I can do the pattern without gripping the instructions every other stitch!  Yippee!

Day Six TDF

Singles spun throughout the day as I listened to podcasts and mp3 books from the library.
Plied this evening as we listened to the thunder storm and enjoyed the lightening.
358 yards of fingering weight yarn puts me way ahead of the miles raced-a good safety net.
The skein is ready for knitting!
Which I will begin in a few weeks when the race is over!

Our National Birthday

Looking back helps us move forward.

(I purloined this graphic from Hobby Lobby-a Christian company in a secular world.)

Day Five TDF

I finalized the house restoration after company and in between chores I spun up two bobbins of singles.
Then last night after church, I plied the singles,
and wound them onto my niddy noddy.  316 yards added to my 'race' !
This will be skein one for the socks; a nice firm skein of Peruvian wool.

Day Four of the Tour de Fleece

Skein two and three totaling 477 yards of fingering weight yarn is spun for the Tour de Fleece.  The Targhee is very springy and soft.  I will be knitting some fingerless mitts out of this next month.  I have reached my goal of spinning at least the number of miles of the race each day in yards of yarn.
I also did some knitting to continue my lessons in Brioche knitting.   It required a bit of ripping out and reknitting but I found my rhythm again!  It sure is pretty and cushy for a scarf!
And while it was raining beautifully outside, I accomplished some dyeing for tomorrow's spinning fiber for the race-this time with a specific project in mind!

Perfect Timing

The Tour de Fleece will keep me busy because it is pretty empty around here since everyone left.
I continue the race with the red Targhee........one bobbin is full and I am working on the second one.  I hope to have 319 miles (well, yards) done on the race by this evening!  I am finding a lot of spinning time since I have no babies to snuggle or nieces to hug or parents to talk with or grown children to share life with.........

FEELING BETTER

I added two smaller pumpkins to add to the larger one I made while in Georgia.    They make a pretty trio! The hats keep on coming--I am usi...
