TIME IS CRAWLING BY!

Our Cereus plant is loaded with blooms--10 of them in fact!  I took this yesterday morning, hoping they would be open Tuesday night before the winds took them away!
I also took a trip to our pond that has overflowed into a swamp again like it did a few years ago!  Not our happiest conditions for that area.  It is no longer wooded with pines and maples-it is rather grim.  If we get the 12-18" of rain predicted, we will be able to row our boat around agan!
The sunshine gave way to this....
it will be grey skies for a few days.
Ian is moving so slowly, but the rains are here and I'm hoping the winds aren't extreme!
It's a good thing I know how to stay busy!
Lena helped me knock out a few hats last night while I waited for the flowers to open;  they are their best around midnight but I couldn't wait that long to go so sleep-I
need to get the zzz's while I can!

The one on the left is from DK yarn and the right one is in worsted.  I am loving this knitting machine,
 in case you haven't noticed!

And at ten o'clock, I took a walk to look at the blossoms--the plant is about 48" tall with several 'branches'.
The flowers are large-5-6" across and droop about 8-10".  And the aroma as I approached was heavenly!  It was a very comfortable 78*F so the warmth adds to the sultriness.
It's the most amazing flower I have ever seen!

Full of Potential

I have the blocks done for the lap quilt.
and enough done for another layout of a different design from this jelly roll.
I also have a ton of cereus blooms about to burst into their twilight glory!
Two different plants are raring to go--tonight will be the night!
The plant is reallly mature now because the blooms are even full of potential during the day!

Pretty Things

Sleeve #1 done for the Gable and Cable Cardigan!
And I've already started the second one.
A very pleasant knit and a piece of cake compared to Mom's work for the body of the sweater!
These are the blooms from the Cereus that I missed Saturday night because I fell asleep too soon!
Yes, these beauties only bloom for one night--
What would we do if we could only shine for one night?!
But there were two new ones for me to admire last night.
Isn't it amazing--sorry, I will never be bored with going out at 10:30 to admire them!
And savor their heavenly tropical aroma!
Go ahead and scratch your screen lightly--you just might get a whiff!

Pretty in Pink

Hot off the machine needle and all seamed up!
This is a child's size 6 sweatshirt styled sweater.
This will go to another grandchild.
I did the ribbing on the machine by hand manipulation;
the ribbing of the neck was done on the knitting needle after picking up the stitches.
I used Lion Brand Mandala DK yarn, one skein with only a few yards left!
Look at the surprise I had this morning!  This is the night blooming Cereus;  I missed the dozen blooms all this week because I just couldn't stay up late enough to  see them fully open.
I couldn't believe they were still open this morning!  I'm wondering if the cooler temperatures ( mid-fifties) kept the open longer.
Whatever the reason, I fully enjoyed seeing them;  what a gift to start my day!

Bumper Buds

There are 25 of these buds growing on the Cereua plant.
See the tree frog hanging out-he's waiting for the buds to open so he can snag some unwitting moths.
Usually when a plant has this many buds, most fall off by now and only a few will mature.
Not this time-there is indeed a bumper crop.  It's going to be an amazing midnight vigil in another week!
I can't wait!
A second plant is sending out buds-'tis the season, I guess.

A Special Gift

Look what is blooming tonight!
The Cereus has sent a gift of its wonderfully
aromatic bloom!
This was taken at 7pm.
I darted outside to sit and breathe its sweetness and admire its incredible construction!
The best time is around 12-3am but I will settle for a 10pm viewing! lol
I'm sure the fairies enter the yard from these blooms!
I could try my hand at a child's storybook with this bloom as the impetus for the story line!
Are you imaginative?
I'm not the only one attracted to this nighttime delight!

Paw Socks and Pow Flowers

The I Love Fall knitting interrupted the progress on these socks for my oldest grandchild!  I got to work and concentrated on getting them done after I had to rip them out the other day!
I love the little paw prints for his kitty love!
After being excited about my ONE bloom on the Cereus....it was pointed out that there were several more-10 altogether in the front yard!!!!!
I went out late again to see these 5 in their full aromatic glory!  My, oh, my!

Blooming

This is the Cereus plant bloom.  You can see how it got the common name of Dutchman's Pipe.
The stem and flower are about 10-12" in size.
The bloom itself is about 5".
What an amazing flower to behold!  What a creative Creator!
I am creating a pretty cool pattern but the little bit of ribbing does nothing to stop the 'curl' of the stockinette.  I will have to block it to near death but I love the play of colors!
One repeat done, on to the next!

JUST A LITTLE MATH

When something looked wrong while placing the setting triangles,  I looked at the photo on the front of the pattern and saw that I had place...
