TWO NEW DIRECTIONS

I pulled out last month's FQ's and cut them up for a new table runner.  I was inspired by this pattern from The Fat Quarter Shop's YouTube channel.

Only one 6 1/2" strip of each of the 6 fabrics plus my own background fabric gave me a table runner size!  I will be making several so they can be gifted!

And I couldn't resist putting one row under the needle to see how it would go--and it was very easy!!!

Feeling like I was on a roll, I took out some of the Jelly roll strips and paired them up so I could make a few blocks for the Christmas in July quilt.

I can see this will be another minimum effort for a big result project!  I only stitched/cut two of the paired strips so these will not be all the same ones together in the actual quilt but you get the idea.  This is the free pattern from The Fat Quarter Shop.

And here is a sad tale;  Bill clipped the leg of my raised bed  

of veggies while mowing.

The leg was weakened by rot but still---I didn't give him a medal for 'Seeing who could mow close enough to the bed so he didn't have to trim" award......

 

WORKING A BIT

A new warp is happening!  I am using some leftovers from the previous cottons with the addition of grey in 8/4 cotton.

I could only fit half on the winding board at a time.

But I made sure I made sure to label each half

 so I would know which goes where on the loom! 

Soon I would be eating green beans 

and summer squash from the veg beds!

We will be trimming some Swiss chard for dinner today!

 

GREEN IS APPEARING!

The beans are doing fine--I should be eating some in a month!

In the other bed there are carrots, lettuce, carrots and two rows of radishes.  The corner has some garlic.

I'm on new meds from the dr--hoping to interrupt the headache cycle and to build back some stamina!

 

FOUND THEIR HOME

Bill moved the vegetable boxes over to their permanent home!  It is near to a live oak tree so I can sit and rest and admire the soon-to-be young plants!  The broken park bench is going to get a makeover so match the boxes while I will keep the iron work black.  We bought the soil last night and I am filling the boxes first thing today!

This little 'wheelbarrow' has held plants but the wood rotted away.  I will take it apart, replace the rotted wood and give it a new coat of paint  so it will be better than ever. 

 It will hold flowers and brighten my gardening corner! 

The humidity is much lower and there is a beautiful breeze again;

I will be outside doing a ton of things that have been neglected during our brutal heat wave!

 

PAINTING AND KNITTING

I painted both of the vegetable beds yesterday--the day was a bit less humid than it has been so the job was more easily done! It helped to see how pretty they were turning out

 as I painted the old wood!

The sweater's colorwork is done as I race down the body now!  

I have a lab appointment first thing this morning but the rest of the day will be centered around some sewing room time!  

 

VEG BED #2

We put the last screws in the second vegetable bed. 

 Today, Bill will give me a lesson on painting with the sprayer to get them painted so I can begin to use them finally!! 

 Hoping for no rain so I can paint them outside!

I am thoroughly enjoying the colorwork knitting!  Almost done with with stranded colorwork part and then I will cruise down the body!

 

ONE DONE

We finished the measuring, sawing, screwing of the veg bed and now I want to paint it a medium turquoise color!  But we are making one more of these first!

I made some more of the C2C dishcloths--I didn't single crochet around the outside of these and I like it a lot more.  I had just enough (with 6" to spare!) to make two from one skein of Crafter's Choice in the Black Ice colorway using a size H hook.

  A very good dishcloth project!

 

WOOD ON WEDNESDAY

Bill and I are building some tall  garden beds for my Fall planting (Florida has three growing seasons and summer is not one of them! lol)  We are using reclaimed boards from an old decking.  I drew some plans for a very basic outline and we set to work.  First we made the two ends.

The 2 x 4 will form the frame to hold the slats to make the bottom of the veg box which will be the last step!

He brought up the boards, we sorted them 

and then began to pull nails and unscrew screws!

 The saw horses are handy for cutting the boards to length!

Working on the ground is no longer pleasant!

This is where we ended yesterday, after a good day at quilting group!  Not bad considering I made a great meal of stuffed peppers Bill grew and served it with homemade bread 

and a tossed salad!

We will tackle the last side and then the bottom of the bed today.  Now that the kinks are ironed out

 and I have all of the measurements written down, 

we will be able to make the second box in no time!

This is one of the things I did during quilt group yesterday!  (Forgive the stray threads--I didn't notice it when I took the pic!)

 I am going to turn it into a hot pad!

(it is 6 1/2" square)
