PEN AND PIECING!

                             

I am working on catching up on the Inktober drawings!  I only did one today but had a great time!  This is a gargoyle that is in the Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia!

I did a lot of slicing and piecing--I've finished the flying geese units for the first two prompts, got out the ones I made before in the wrong color and used them now (thanks for the heads up, Alycia!) and am well on my way to making the new units!  Very relaxing.

Even though I put the pom-poms up where they would not be a temptation--I was wrong.  We had a death of two pom-poms.  Naughty, Lena!

I'm off to a local quilt show, right at my local quilt shop!  

I am meeting two friends there and then we will go to lunch after.

How nice to have a day of fun with friends!

FRIENDS GATHER!

The town's community center is open to the public again and we held our quilting group yesterday!  It was so good to catch up with friends and see what everyone has been up to in the months and months apart!  I worked on the latest Quilts for Kids kit.  

There is one blog reader who will appreciate this fabric!

And while I was enjoying a good time sewing, talking and laughing with friends, Bill was struck by the truck on the left-Bill is in the middle and the car on the left of  ran right up the driver's side of Bill and flipped on his side!  (he had to be removed by the rescue crew through the windshield!)  No one suffered any injuries-just three ruined vehicles!  The truck who pulled out and hit Bill was at fault but that is little satisfaction when your new truck is unable to be driven....

I had started this for my PROMPT for the day but maybe 

Bill did it better than me! 

PROGRESS HAPPENS

The piecing of the new pumpkin table runner is mostly done;  I have yet to add the white borders.  

I had quite a backlog of bowls, etc, to sign because I broke my last woodburner.  This time I bought a pyrography tool instead and it was so much better at signing the wood! 

Now an almost pleasurable chore!

Now I can make something new since I am caught up! lol

The prompt yesterday was LEAK; 

 I have a dripping faucet so this was an easy one!

 

AHHH, REST PAYS OFF!

I finished the last block today after I did a bit of work at the quilting frame.  It felt good to be home for a change! lol  I organized all of the blocks around the center medallion and began the job of crocheting the seams.  It took the rest of the afternoon, but I did it!

I even wove in all of the ends!

Nyki enjoyed the stage arranged just for her, right?! 

 This is about 40" wide now.  

There are still two more borders to be added to each side.

The prompt for yesterday was OPEN, and I didn't have to think long before I knew what I wanted to do.

Do you rush out and to get the mail each day? 

 I like to get the mail-even if it is only junk mail!

 

FINALLY!

I endured my last dr appointment yesterday, picked up some new meds and collapsed on the recliner the rest of the day! 

I don't have to go anywhere today, to the best of my knowledge, and for that I am very grateful;  it has been a very tough week!

 I did watch some good tutorials for days when I have verve again but really I just did some more of the crocheting.

I did have fun with the prompt, FUZZY. 

 I'd like a bite of one, wouldn't you?!

 

A FUNERAL

The day was very pleasant for a very emotional day;  a friend's grown son had died.  We drove through mostly empty countryside to go to the church.

Cattle enjoyed the milder, less humid weather, too.  Scrub land, fields, a few trees and way in the distance you can see the slash pine forest.

There were also ranches far and few between.

Tool sheds are scattered among the trees.

I did a bit of sock knitting on the way.

I was able to paint the prompt, SPROUT, which was a joy.

 

GLIMMERS

Another pair of socks completed! This is knit in Muse, Peace Tonal,  over 64 stitches on 2.5mm needles, toe-up with the Hermione Pattern.

The socks are a bit larger than usual 

because I usually knit with 2.0mm needles

 but they will fit someone!

I've made one of the new mosaic blocks--

it's a bit wonky but hasn't been blocked yet!

 And for Inktober, the prompt was LOOP--

an easy one to know what to do. 

 Did you spend a lot of time with one of these

 when you were younger?!

TRAVEL

You know the one good thing about taking a two hour road trip is the amount of knitting you can get done! lol 

 The yoke is finished and one sleeve is completed also!  

Grandson #3 requested that for today's prompt, HELMET, that I draw a Star Wars Stormtrooper helmet so , of course, that is what I did.  I will add watercolor later;

 I'm going to play with some grands instead!

 

SOME MORE ROWS

I am still enjoying adding two rows per color to the baby blanket. 

 I still make some mistakes on the stitch counts per pattern 

but it's a good thing yarn rips back to correct the mistakes! lol

The prompt for yesterday was STUCK and this is all I came up with....Now sing it with me,

 'Stuck in the middle with you....!'  

I don't enjoy Oreos but it was a fun drawing/painting! lol

 

AUTUMN TABLE RUNNER

It's finished!  The new table runner is ready to add color to the dining  room with the Autumn leaves!

This is where Lena ends up after playing with me 

and her toys when I sit down to paint 

and it is the one time I do not let her jump up on my lap!

Yesterday's prompt was Spirit.......I chose to share a glimpse of the dove which appeared over Jesus' head

 upon his baptism by his cousin, John.  

 

WOOD ON WEDNESDAY

We had errands to run in DeLand, about an hour south of us, 

and on the way, we found this unusual place of business--

a woodworker and carver.  We enjoyed talking with him and looking through all of the slabs of cedar and camphor mostly.  He also makes garden art from the driftwood he collects;  

it was a delight to the senses!

I came home with a chunk of Cypress!

  I can't wait to turn it on the lathe

 and see what it looks like inside!

After the shopping, we treated ourselves to homemade ice cream!  Bill had a vanilla soft serve with sprinkles and I had a cone called Almond Joy-yup, that is just what it tastes like!

Day 4's prompt was KNOT--so I made a Celtic knot--

I picture it being on a Viking's cape as a clasp!

Here it is in the sunshine--I used some of the metallic paint to give it a real shimmer! 

And for Day 5, the prompt was a Raven. 

 One of my favorite birds.

SEEING THINGS!

Here's something you don't see very often--a license plate from the Virgin Islands!  

I hope to load this table runner on the frame and quilt it today!

While looking for something else, I found this leftover pile of flannel squares from quilts I made last winter.  I will get it pieced this week.

Yesterday's prompt was Vessel;  for me that means pottery.  This is a rendering of a common water vessel used in Israel around the time of the first Temple-the one Solomon built. (947BC)  I love terra cotta!

 

SOCKS ON SUNDAY and INKTOBER BEGINS!

I started this pair of socks in the Hermione pattern--it has a very subtle dark green value but it is for all intents and purposes like a  black yarn and very hard to work on at night! 

Even so, I have very good lighting for my evening knitting and I couldn't do it without it!  

I've made a little notebook with real watercolor paper for the daily watercolors.  I do not join a group to participate; 

 I just like the personal challenge!

I bought this little metallic watercolor set--

with all of these highly reflective colors because I knew the first day had---

the prompt of CRYASTAL.  

I knew what I wanted to make and had fun drawing it out. 

 The paints just add to the sparkle which was fun to paint!

The prompt for yesterday was an immediate idea, too--

this is the suit of the South!

Taking a Good Gouge

The Sandhill Crane family still visit several times a day. 

 It is so nice to see their chick grown now to his parents' size and coloring.  

He will be on his own come Spring but for now they are still a happy family.

I played at the lathe on a new Camphor bowl.  

There sure was a lot of sawdust!  

It smells so good, I think it would be good in little sachets to keep away moths, too!

The bowl is just roughed out;  the end on the right is the bottom of the bowl 

and is now turned around on the lathe so I will begin hollowing out the bowl portion.

  I will then wait for the bowl to dry out a bit-it is full of water 

and needs to dry out so the final bowl will not crack and warp. 

 It was so relaxing to sweep away the waste wood to get it rounded out, 

that dinner was late! 

 I'm so happy to have the area and tools to work with wood!

INKTOBER DAY 20--CORAL  

A fantasy coral reef--I think it would be pretty painted on the wall on our pool!
