TEAM WORK

 I have always loved yard work and when we had a few hours of breathable air, we did just that!   It didn't take long to trim and pick up and take the debris to the compost pile because even my Dad (93) and Mom (90) participated!  I thought I was going to get some cooler weather with fresh air and temps in the 60's 

but not this visit!  

I always joke, I don't come here for the weather, but to be with them!  And it's a good thing!

PUTTERING FOR THE FUN OF IT!

A new block called out to me--

I made two and have the third one cut out and will piece it later today for a new summertime table runner!

I blocked out the second half of the shawl.

Bill and I did some front yard weeding as part of the 'Front Porch Spiffing Up' and I even spray-painted the chairs--our sunshine does a brutal job on plastic!  

 

WORK AND PLAY SATURDAY

I gathered 10 cart-fulls of debris until I called it quits!  I looks better that the view out the windows is clear at least.  There's lots more but it will wait.

When I took a ride out to the flooded area, I could see the White Egret in the water and a cormorrant on the boat!

I had to pick up some meds at the store and drove around to survey the damage in town--they were doing a very good job of cleaning up yards and streets.  Our town is old enough to have several Victorian homes in good shape!  Pretty.  This one is on a hill overlooking Crescent Lake.

Look!  The Lifesaver Cactus is in bloom!

When I needed to come in and cool off, I decided to knit with some of my handspun yarn!  It worked beautifully!

I made two hats out of one 3 oz skein-a toddler and youth hat with it.  The blue/orange hat is one I reworked from the early hat I made because I have learned how to change colors better than in the beginning! lol

I also finished block #6 and am looking for my next one!

 

Inside and Outside Stuff

 While I wrestle with the last few rows of the apple core quilt,

 Bill has been spiffing up the front yard!

This tree had died and was not only ugly but dangerous.

He cut off the large branch on the left and it is growing so he wanted to try to cut it back to the

main trunk to see if it would sprout!

We will see.

(I am going to yarn bomb this guy soon enough! Bwahaha!)

 Look how nice the date palms look now-it is nice and necessary to trim off the lower

boughs each year because they turn brown and aren't attractive!

 He even planted the bougainvilleas at the base of the arbor!  

Doesn't it look nice --I can't wait until the nurseries open

 and I can surround the birdbath with flowers!

I caught up with Bill for a photo--even the small cabbage palms got a trim!

Suiting Quilts and Fruit

 This is why the frame was empty for Millie's quilt the other day....

I finished all the men's suit samples quilts.  

Here are all four lap blankets for the donation pile!

 The banana grove has fully recovered from the Hurricane Matthew.

 In fact, there are three healthy bunches of bananas growing!
Bananas take about 4 months of growth before you can pick them.

 Aren't they interesting?!  It helps waiting when they are so pretty!

From the bananas to the tip of the flower is 3-4'.

 Other signs of the hurricane are still in sight.......

This is one of my favorite Live Oak trees

 and it had the center twisted right out of it! 

 It is unusual for these to lose branches 

but it met its match in the hurricane this time!

We need a day to just cut branches 

and burn up the piles while it is the rainy season!

Weekends....

I worked on my Close to You shawl.  It is such luxury yarn-Yak down and Silk-wonderful to hold!

Bill's job was to remove the fencing from the garden that is no more.  The corner posts are cemented in! 

He removed the fencing and piled it up so that it can be sold. 

And he removed the cemented posts-look at that Georgia red clay! 

Bruce finished the power washing the driveway.  It looks brand new! 

After church Marsel took a pic of us with the kids.  We rarely remember to take pictures of us with the kids and I wanted to do something about that this visit!

Here's to a good start!

We were still pretty droopy from the virus this weekend but do see some peripheral improvements!
