SOME PAINTING PROJECTS

The wooden layered light house is completed.

It is about 3/4" thick overall.  

Anyone want to sit in front of this view with me?!

I've been going too many days in a row and could use a slow morning BUT I am off to a routine doctor appt instead!

 

BUSY DAYS

Bill and I installed a new perch for Lena in my room--she can watch the birds, butterflies and squirrels!

I finally hung the first set of paint-by-numbers I did!

And added the finishing touches to my watercolor.

After the dentist yesterday, I stopped at my local quilt store and picked up my new Fat Quarter Club fabrics!  I hope to make a few of these today!

 

JARS AND VASES

A masterpiece of paint-by-number cleverness! 

 I loved every minute of it!  If anything, I think it will help my own painting skills from doing these kits.  

I was searching through my stash of  frames to find one for this piece.  I will have to paint the frame in gray/white to make it suitable first.  I can't wait to do the next painting!

 

DOWN BUT NOT OUT

I've had several down days;  it happens when I have too many busy days in a row!  I did appreciate the time to finish the large painting.  What a wonderful activity for me!  All the pleasure of 'real' painting without the pressure of drawing one! 

 The blending and additional touches are just a bonus!

As soon as I finished the large one, 

I started the 'I love you!' gift my dil sent in the mail!  

Lena liked the down days and took full advantage of having a napping buddy! 

I'm looking forward to some piecing and a bit of time at the quilting frame today!

 

QUIET WORK

I know you won't believe it, but I have another Sea Haven sweater on the needles!  I have never enjoyed a sweater so much because it is interesting, a perfect fit and gorgeous yarn!  The yarn is from Drops, Cotton Merino.  I will now have 5 of these short-sleeved tops but I tend to do that with something I like-buy one of each color kind of thing, I mean!

I've also been enjoying this paint by number!  This one has a lot of color mixing with many complain about but I like to mix the colors and get to play a bit with my own ideas, too.  

I'm off to lunch today with several quilt friends;  they have been faithful to include me and keep in touch.  

We will laugh and cry and eat and did I say laugh?  

 

ONE NUMBER AT A TIME

I have started a new paint-by-number project;  this one is bigger (16' x 20") and more detailed. I am thoroughly enjoying it!  Since I am doing the lifting and carrying, I am needing some more down time and I love picking up the paintbrush to add a few strokes!

Bill is doing great after the stem cell procedure--he's trying hard to not use his arms too much--no moving his elbows away from his body!  You try that for an hour! lol  Anyway, he is doing very well and is already feeling improvement in his shoulders from resting them, too.  He is allowed short drives and he can use the golf cart as long as he goes slowly and carefully with hands low on the steering wheel.

We have church and a carry-in meal today and then back home for the Sunday nap!

A DAB OF PAINT

 

I am enjoying the acrylic paint-by-number projects. 

 As with most things, the second one (the bottom one) 

was much easier to do;  I have the basic shapes painted in 

and am now adding the details.

FOR THE DOWN TIME

 Since I enjoy the watercoloring books, I thought I would give the acrylic paint-by-number trend a try. And I am thoroughly enjoying it!  Who knew?!  There are 4 already-framed canvases in this set

 so I will enjoy hanging them together when finished.  

ACRYLIC PAINT POURING!

My youngest son and family came for a visit on Saturday-gratefully, I woke up feeling better! 

 It rained hard for most of the day.  

So what do you do? 

 Make a mess with paint pouring while it is pouring out!

DIFFERENT JUICES FLOWING

I broike out the new paints I have had for a month and finally began a painting with them.  I am about halfway done with this;  it takes a lot more time than you think to build up the layers starting with things farthest away and then adding details the closer to the viewer you get.  A good way to get me upright more!  The paints are a new-to-me brand which more closely mimic oils yet are acrylics.  They take longer to dry yet haven't the odors associated with oils and they don't dry out so quickly on your canvas or your palette. 

 A good way to get my brain cells working again!

In between layers of paint, I worked on the sleeve. 

 One done and on to the next! 

A FACE-LIFT!

I did a bit of painting yesterday;   this ceramic bell was a gift from my parents 20 years ago after they had taken a trip to Arizona.  The poor bell had become faded and you couldn't see the design anymore.

I used some acrylic paint pens to spiff it up again and then sealed it with lacquer.

I even had to repair the clapper as the old one had fallen and broken when the jute cord had deteriorated.  I think it is proud of its face-lift!

 

ART ON WEDNESDAY

I think it was the talk of Arizona that sparked this landscape. 

 We loved the desert for its novelty.

Last month, I tried another fluid paint pour. 

 It looked liked this at the start...

...and dried like this. 

 It looked dull to me when it dried. 

 I just set it down and would think what I could do with it!

Yesterday, I found the little canvas and decided to transform it!

I used acrylic markers to color in the background

 to create lake rock shapes.  I framed in the rocks and left the sides of the canvas colored just for interest.

Now the 'rocks' looked more vibrant and less dull to me!

  I had such a relaxing time painting the shape by filling in the background and then shading each rock to give them dimension then adding shadows to ground them.

I sealed it with clear lacquer and now it is hanging on my wall! 

 I'm onto something very satisfying!

TAMMY'S DAISIES!

 It was a challenge to paint the daisies

 (from a photo on T's Daily Treasures)

on my own but a lot of fun. 

 It took longer than I expected, too.

Several days in fact!  

But it's done and I'm happy!  

I might not be able to garden yet, but I can play with flowers!

ANOTHER KINDA PAINTING

 This acrylic painting was done while watching another YouTube session!  She is doing a painting a day for this month.

I enjoyed the vast differences between this 

and watercolor and just relaxed while I painted with my right three fingers and using my left hand for details. 

 I can't wait for the next painting! 

I have another YT picked out already!

SMALL DOINGS

I noticed that the pile of blocks on the right had only two groups of two triple crochets in each corner while the bulk of this basket has the proper two groups of three so I ripped out the 10 done in error and throughout the day, I crocheted the last round again to make them all correct!  I like the way this pile is growing!

I also made bubbles on the second canvas and liked this one much better.  I am too critical of my left hand's work to do any more of them;  I will have to try an abstract with my left hand next ,so there does not have to have the precision these bubbles need.  Though I must admit, there is improvement from the first one on the left to the second on on the right.

Busy day today;  I'm heading in for the annual MRI of brain, neck and spine with and without contrast-Bill drops me off because it will take and hour and a half to get through it all.  After I finish up there, we will grab a quick lunch and head to the orthopedic hand doctor for x-rays and his assessment of the wrist's healing.  .
 

BUBBLES!

I used a  drinking glass to draw some circles, painted the outline, shading and highlights-with my left hand!  It was very tiring to use the 'wrong' hand!  The lines are a bit shaky but I did it!  I liked it enough to do the other one in a similar style!

 I thought I would share this window vase--it's pretty in my kitchen window!

Meandering

 I had to run in early to town and stopped for a favorite view over Crescent Lake.

I couldn't keep to a particular thing at all --

but I did have a good day yesterday!

 I spent a long time cutting out 'scraps' today for a QAL I want to take part in.

 I heard from  my parents ;

the painting made it safely to them!

It's nice to keep a promise.

I've already started the next painting.

How's this for a bit of an oasis?

The line of pine trees is about a fourth of its former self 

but there are some left and that is good.

I am still trying to get used to the new terrain of the pond area. 

Bill feeds his fish-he's not sure if they are the tilapia he stocked there or if they are bass.

Time will tell!  (about a lot of things....)
