CROSSING THE LINE

First thing in the morning yesterday, my daughter and I went and had our nails done and then went 3 doors down and had my hair cut!  It feels so good!  (pictures later, I promise!)
On to the art--we filled out palettes with watercolor paint,
spread out on the art table and played.
I picked line and wash and tomorrow we will pick another style of painting.  What fun to relax and just paint!
And I was gifted this sketching journal from my daughter--there are prompts for each day--fun things like what are you looking forward to today  or  what makes you smile?
It will be a wonderful way to get lost in the joy of art!

TAKING A BITE OUT OF MY DAY!

I drew a mandala on that square piece of wood....
so I can fill in the shapes with 'just a few' of the hundreds of shark's teeth!  (these were from my son-in-law!)  It's working out well--I decided I need to paint in the lines of the mandala first and then lay out the glue in each small area at a time
for the 'mosaic' of teeth to be applied!
And I am going to be that Grandma who has to brag about her oldest granddaughter....she is2nd from the right, second row.    (blond hair-no hat)    This is a screenshot so it's showing only about 1/4th of the size of the choir!  she was part of the Bob Jones University choir for the annual tree lighting and caroling night--it was live and we got to watch it on tv!  (gotta love technology to keep us connected!)  We had friends over and I tuned in for the concert and we listened together--it was wonderful!

Sketching for Sunday

Another calendar line and wash is finished.
This one is a Tobacco Flower which was a new one to me!
Soon you will be seeing a slightly different kind of ink drawing!
What a fun niche this artist has carved for herself!
She's great to watch on YouTube, too!
Check her out on her fun Inky Art School!
I'm having a great time!

Getting Close

 I hung another thread rack
and played with organizing the different polyester threads used for embroidery.
Now that they are all in one place, I will be able to find the color I want, you think?!
At the bottom of one bin, I found this!
After all of these years, it is still good!
You know what it is?
I held it in my hand and warmed it and remembered the feel of it in my fist....
I've been doing a lot of this and it is getting close to the finish line.
I still have to work on the garage and add my parents in sneaky places!
Of all the places to nap, Lena has decided that the seat I use to sit in while I paint
is the only one she wants to nap on!
The minute I get up for something, she jumps right up and settles in!

Painting is Calming

Another finish!
This will be a good reminder of where I was born,
under the shadow of Mt. Rainier!
Since this serious painting is finished, it is time to correct this sad attempt--
I first drew it to do as a water color but
it was splashed by an energetic toddler and I let it languish in the drawer too long.
I tried to use acrylics to paint over the 'spots' but the paper wasn't sturdy enough
and there was too much buckling!
I traced it (gotta love the lightbox!) so I could use the drawing for another attempt.
After tracing it, I placed some carbon paper under it so I could draw it right onto the canvas!
Note--they don't call it carbon paper anymore!
It comes in lots of colors and works the same way!
I applied it to a flat canvas--
set it up on the easel -
So it was time for the fun part--the painting!
The first layers of paint are called color blocking or underpainting--
just waiting now for the details that will make it recognizable
as my parents' home!

How Artful!

After a lazy morning yesterday, Abigail and I had fun painting.
We laughed that we were not as quick as the youtube artists!
These will be finished this morning.
We have quite an art center set up!
Wednesday afternoon, we enjoyed a golf cart ride and then a swim-
well, one of us swam!  I did a bit of knitting!
 The amaryllis are blooming!
These live outside and they flower with very little work on our part!
And boy do we have azaleas!
They look like glow-in-the-dark colors!
Off to do more of the same!

MORE CATS AND HATS

Ollie, the orange cat, is only 2 and very curious unlike Felix,  the 13 year old Manx.  He is much harder to for us to enjoy because he hide...
