A WOOD BUMP

I called dibs on a burl on a tree at church.  When I saw that someone had removed it (half was rotten and it wasn't safe anymore) I reminded Bill of my claim!  He brought his chainsaw and cut the piece for me!
See the bump?  It is called a burl and it has the most interesting wood grain for a bowl!
He cut out the chunk for me and then halved the log
so I can get to work on it this week!
I can't wait to get back to work at the lathe!

  1. That will be wonderful. You make the most beautiful bowls.

  3. Until I saw you working on the lathe I had no idea how interesting burls were. It will be fun to see what you make with it.

  4. Making something useful and pretty out of something so ugly is a gift. We had some of those things on some trees we had taken down a long time ago and I hated those things that grew on them. Who knew?

  5. Neat! Is the burl harder or easier to work than regular wood?
