WEDNESDAY WIPS

I am putting out a few decorations at a time.

And weaving a 14 row repeat each time I take my 'walk' .  

I am on towel #2 at least so the 1" at-a-time is adding up.

I added a row along the side and along the top on this blanket that never ends.  I still have enough yarn to make it a king size blanket but right now it is 40' x 60".  

I will be setting it aside for a while again.

I did wind up some new sock yarn, Hawthorne, because Bill has asked for a new pair and it will be a nice way to say thank you for the care he has given me over this last month!

We are getting rain already from Milton; we will be experiencing 30-40 mph winds but nothing like the coast will be receiving.  Our home is not in a flood zone so while the lowland way out back where we have our pond will flood, it is not going to impact our house. Bill has the generator all primed and ready if we do experience a power outage.  I know it will be a wild night for many and I will keep my eye on my view from bed...

 

BLOCKS AND BLOCKS!

I sewed each block  and have them on the design wall waiting for some time to adjust them before they are sewn in place.  Quilting group was a good time with each of us making some marked progress!

When I was home, I finished knitting the last few squares on the blanket-the most recent rows were the right sided (19) blocks and the top edge (13).  I have plenty more yarn so I will be adding another row to the side and the top so it is 14 x 20 blocks before I quit knitting on it for a while again!  It is a very enjoyable knitting project!
 

BITTEN!

I painted the background for this shark teeth art a few days ago;  today I played with filling in an outline of a shark with teeth!

The plaque is 14" long but for some reason the angle of the photo has foreshortened it!  

I added a step this time-I used a piece of contact paper laid over the silhouettee I had drawn and then I could retain the placement of the teeth when I use the resin this time,

 I won't have to start over again!

I spent a lot of time doing this --sock yarn blanket knitting; 

 I just haven't had any oomph to stand at the quilting frame!  

 

TUMBLING TUESDAY

Isn't this a pretty sight for the last day of February!?  The more rounded rocks on the left are some more from Lake Ontario.  The brown one on top and the ones on the right are some that are no completely know-two are petrified wood, one is chert and the others mysteries!  Fun stuff.  They are reloaded for week 3 for the lake rocks and week 2 for the mystery load.

My order of rocks arrived today!  Bill says he is feeling flummoxed over me paying for rocks!  Well, I did and I will be doing it some more until I get to a place where I can rockhound for myself!  These are from the Rock Shop, which has a great variety and wonderfully fair prices!  I bought some blue quartz, green quartz, Amazonite and a mixed bag!  You will be seeing more on them in the future!

And this is a great way to end the 'love' month--a blog friend sent some sock scraps for adding rows to my sock scraps blanket!  Just in time to finish up the row to make it wider!  Thank you!

 

A FEW THINGS

I've added a few more blocks to my sock yarn blanket;  I am making a widening row and then I will add another with the same yarns to the top to lengthen the blanket, too.  I do this after I have accumulated enough more sock yarn scraps.

I found a few thick loopers and whipped off a few potholders because I could.

And I hung a dozen of the knitted hearts all around the paths in the park;  this one is the same color as the azaleas.

This one was hung in a tree that had the same color lichen growing there!  I saw no stray cats but did pick up quite a bit of broken glass and papers to do Tammy proud! 

 

Sock Yarn

I always take along some knitting when we head out for church on Sundays because we have a 40 minute drive each way so I can get some nice car knitting in.  I wanted to begin a new pair of socks but I hadn't put the skein into a cake to knit from so I grabbed the sock blanket and some little balls of knitting and away we went!  Bill had some errands to run after church so I also knitted while I waited in the car.  I am adding a row to the length of the blanket while also adding a row to the width!  

A very enjoyable knitting project!

This was the skein of yarn I bought at HobbyLobby on the last visit-I liked working with the last skein and so will enjoy this colorway, too, I think!

It caked up beautifully and Lena even held still for a photo! 

 I will cast on today!

 

A Finish

 The sock yarn blanket is now in its second life-I am much happier with this one.

It is small  (36" x 40")
 but very warm for my iceburg feet to get the thaw when they need it!

 The garter kitchener stitch join turned out well if not perfectly.

I am so happy to be able to use this now!

Another day away yesterday ,
but now I have backing fabric to complete those quilt tops!

Calm

The rain has finally stopped.

I awoke to bright sunshine-how wonderful to see it again!

I had a little hiccup with the scrap sock blanket, after doing the second corner, 

I realized the first corner needed to be done again.

So I ripped back;  I am about half way around now and it is very enjoyable again.

Stars and Rows

 Sometimes you just know when you need to add a bit more ; 

 the sashing and cornerstones are just what this star quilt needed!

Now to stitch it all together!

 Lena is a little bent out of shape.....she is not liking our afternoon thunderstorms!

 I made another cake tier server!  See how much more casual it can be?!

And if I want to rearrange the plates, it is easy to unscrew the supports and mix 'n match! lol

(I broke the one that was supposed to go on top so I had to try something else-as soon as I can,

I will be scavenging the thrift store for some plates in the three different sizes!)

 And when you knit too late in the evening you get this for a corner....

it as supposed to be a simple square but I forgot what I was doing and made it a rectangle!

 See the top--I did it right and that was the last square, too!

Now I am adding the edging, using up all of the little balls and knitting in the ends as I go so there will not be a ton of weaving in when I yell, "Voila!"

Rambling Rows

 I don't need to wonder what to stock in my new kitchen island...

it contains a very satisfied cat already!

(this is what I saw when I came out to the kitchen in the morning!)

The Rambling Rows sock scrap blanket is progressing nicely--I had a lot of knitting time in the car yesterday!

Today, I hope to cut out another quilt or two!

Bill is cutting down some more tree tops with a new friend so I am going to stay cool in the housse (we've hit mid 90's again!)

An Old Pattern

Remember the basket of ripped out sock blanket yarn (the Northeasterly)?

The yarn balls are all of doubled yarn and I wasn't going to try to separate them!

For a change, I pulled out this old pattern.

I am thoroughly enjoying the quilt-i-ness of this blanket!

I'm knitting with the doubled yarn and # 7 needles.

It has a page you can copy so you can  keep track of where you are 

since you do not just knit this in rows!

NorthEasterly!

Not the direction of the wind but rather the name of this pattern

for a  sock yarn blanket!

Mine is now completed at 32" wide and 48" long;

made from doubled strands of my sock yarn stash

on #7 needles.

The directions have you knitting each of the rows pointing up

but I alternated the direction of the knitted strips-

we are knitters; we do it our way!

I sure tamed my leftover sock yarn stash!

A Northeasterly Wind Blows

The blanket grows and is so interesting to knit, 

it almost does each row all by itself.

It was very chilly this morning (42F)

and I thought it was perfect weather to knit on the blanket!

Right now it is 12" x 48".
