JUST KEEP KNITTING

I am waiting for the meds to kick in....I am dizzy and in pain if I stand up SO I knit, laying flat on my back! 

 I woke up too early yesterday to multiple alerts for a tornado watch and then it upped to a warning because one had been sighted just southwest of us!  The Thunderstorms brought 6" of rain-so -the whole pond area is again flooded! 

 It was a good day to knit and doze!

 

MY FAVORITE SHAWL PATTERN

When I dug through my stash looking for the yarn to make the C2C blanket, I came across some fingering weight yarn that just cried out to become a shawl!  This is my favorite shawl, The Geology Shawl.  I have only knit it on #6 needles but it was a bit denser than I wanted it to be for this shawl 

so I upped it a needle size and it is just right!

The yarn came like this from Hobby Lobby.

I rearranged the colors from lightest to darkest and since there are 6 segments to the shawl, I have just the right amount of colors and yarn!  

Yes, the doctor put me on meds to stop the cycle of migraines and I hope to meet myself in a few days--I've missed my usual self very much!

 

TINY BABY STUFF

When I turned in the many kids' quilts, the woman who I met, Chris, said she would call with other needs.  A week later, she called to ask if I could make some 25" layered covers for the incubators in the NICU.  They had to be flannel on one side, which wrapped around to the top which had to be quilter's cotton

 with no batting between the layers. 

 No problem!

  I plucked a bit from the stash for the prototypes.

I will be making them gender specific because the parents will be taking the blankets home with the babies!  

I worked the bugs out on the first two--I will be buying more flannel--I have enough for 6 tops as far as the cotton goes but I don't have any more flannel--

a fabric store stop will be happening soon! lol

First stop today is to my doctor to get some help to put an end to the cluster migraines that have incapacitated me!

Headaches make my meager brain power to be seriously compromised!

 

SPIROGRAPH DOILY

I was able to finish this doily with the acquisition of additional Artiste Thread in Cloud!  Doesn't it remind you of one of the spirograph designs.  I sure spent a lot of time with that craft! 

 I have some rocks I want to try wrapping a doily around! 

 Let's see what I can do!

 

PICTURAL C2C

 I've moved from dishcloth to a blanket 

using the C2C (corner to corner) stitches.  

You just follow the graph diagonally in a kind of intarsia method.

  It is harder to describe than it is to do! lol

As I worked along, I wondered if the graph would also work for a quilt; using different shades of the key elements to produce the design!  I think it will make an interesting study to compare!

  There are several free patterns available for these newer crochet patterns.  It's good to learn something new!

RE-SWEATERED!

 Yesterday morning I ripped out this sweater--I had used needles that were too small and it felt like armor and not a nice knit sweater!  Yup, I ripped it all out and re-knit it while I was down for the count .  It felt good to do it all again, really!  The fabric has drape now even when I  am using worsted weight yarn.  It's okay to rip out when you need to!

MISS D'S QUILT SHOW '23

This woman entered several of this style of quilts!

  They were all amazing!

One of the ladies at our church entered this one!

This log cabin was unique because of the addition of real log cabin houses throughout the quilt!

There were several with this muted palette-just gorgeous!

And then there were raw applique and bright colors.

My favorite of the show was this needle turned quilt in the Hawaiian style.

It was her amazing use of Batik fabrics that gave this incredible use of color shifting for the vines and blocks!

The Flamingo Dance quilt I recognized from the Jacksonville Show!

And we have disaster in the studio.....one of the wheels on my machine (they allow the machine to glide in any direction-there are 8 of them) has split apart and the machine is unable to move smoothly, if at all!!!!   It is $250 to replace the wheels with the NEW system of wheels;  they are not sold individually! My machine is around 35 years old so I am stuck for a while which is really sad since I have a quilt loaded on it and a bunch of ideas percolating in my head!!!!

 

LOCAL QUILT SHOW DAY

 It's that time of year again and I am off to our local quilt shop

for their incredible quilt show!

I have friends with quilts entered

 (I don't enter mine-judging isn't my thing!) 

but I can't wait to see what is popular this year!

FOUND THEIR HOME

Bill moved the vegetable boxes over to their permanent home!  It is near to a live oak tree so I can sit and rest and admire the soon-to-be young plants!  The broken park bench is going to get a makeover so match the boxes while I will keep the iron work black.  We bought the soil last night and I am filling the boxes first thing today!

This little 'wheelbarrow' has held plants but the wood rotted away.  I will take it apart, replace the rotted wood and give it a new coat of paint  so it will be better than ever. 

 It will hold flowers and brighten my gardening corner! 

The humidity is much lower and there is a beautiful breeze again;

I will be outside doing a ton of things that have been neglected during our brutal heat wave!

 

PAINTING AND KNITTING

I painted both of the vegetable beds yesterday--the day was a bit less humid than it has been so the job was more easily done! It helped to see how pretty they were turning out

 as I painted the old wood!

The sweater's colorwork is done as I race down the body now!  

I have a lab appointment first thing this morning but the rest of the day will be centered around some sewing room time!  

 

VEG BED #2

We put the last screws in the second vegetable bed. 

 Today, Bill will give me a lesson on painting with the sprayer to get them painted so I can begin to use them finally!! 

 Hoping for no rain so I can paint them outside!

I am thoroughly enjoying the colorwork knitting!  Almost done with with stranded colorwork part and then I will cruise down the body!

 

ACRYLIC PAINT POURING!

My youngest son and family came for a visit on Saturday-gratefully, I woke up feeling better! 

 It rained hard for most of the day.  

So what do you do? 

 Make a mess with paint pouring while it is pouring out!

A PUMPKIN HAT!

I have a friend whose baby is due today-

I thought a pumpkin hat would be welcomed!

I made it on the Sentro knitting machine with DK weight yarn.

 I also cast on for a top-down round yoke sweater. 

 So far, so good!

IT'S A WRAP!

I  crocheted right through the basket filled with balls and partial skeins of dishcloth cotton!

Now the basket is filled with twenty three 7-8" dishcloths

 in the C2C pattern!

And I wanted to share that I added loops to the hot pads I had made and hung them on the end of the kitchen island--now the color really pops and makes me happy!

 

A BIT UNDER THE WEATHER...

I have finished one sock on the new needles-things went well and no damage to my finger occurred with the sharp points! lol  I set right out on the second sock and finished the toe.  A good place to begin now for all of that foot knitting requires hardly any thinking!  I am down with a sore throat and headache. 

 A day off today is just what I need. 

 I have had too many days out and about!

 

I ran out of the thread for this doily.  I need to pick up several balls of this grey;  I really like it and am enjoying the doily renaissance that's struck me!!

SOME STITCHING

The binding is added to the table runner and it is nicely on the table!  This one will be for November because it has no orange in it and  I have several that will be on the table for October first!

I am in the process of adding the blue binding to the gingham quilt;  I accidentally put this in the finished pile

 without adding the binding-silly me!

I have another Call Me bag almost finished!  I will be teaching it to my quilting group next week or so!
